Excerpt:
"So, cowboy." Angie set her beer bottle down. "You're halfway done with that drink and you've managed to sit with me the whole time. Now tell me about the broken heart you're still mending."
Nathan rolled his drink between his hands. "Nothing to tell."
"Quit the bullshit. Do I look like her? Remind you of her? What?" She sat back in her chair and crossed her arms. "There is some reason you dislike me."
You make me feel things. Not to mention, in some ways, her features were similar to his ex, like her long, dark hair. "I don't know what you're talking about."
She ran a hand through her hair. "Well, whoever she was, get over it."
"Why do you care so much?" He lifted the bottle to his lips, but didn't drink. "You don't know me, I don't know you. Why do you care if I've got a broken heart?"
"Because you're taking it out on me."
He shook his head and finished the beer. That was his last one for the evening. He stared at Angie. She had a point that he'd been rude to her on numerous occasions, but he hadn't intentionally meant to hurt her feelings. "I apologize."
She smiled, her red lips parting. She had one of those contagious grins, because he felt his spread across his face.
"Now that is sexy. I can see why the girls would fall for you." She winked.
"What?"
She leaned forward, and he caught a glimpse down her shirt again. "Your smile. It could make a woman fall to her knees."
I want you on your knees. He wasn't sure how to respond.
"Now that you're in a better mood, want to tell me how I can make you like me?"
There was nothing she needed to do. He liked her plenty. "I don't have an issue with you."
She shrugged and stood. "Okay, whatever." She rubbed his shoulder. "I'm going to find me a handsome man to dance with."
He grabbed her wrist and she stared back at him.
"What? Did you want to be that handsome man?" She tried to look innocent, but the tease knew what she did to him.
Yes, yes he did. He wanted to take her on that dance floor and mold her body to his and let everyone in this place know she was off limits. "Nah, I'm heading out. Just be careful. Some of these guys think dancing should lead to other things."
She raised an eyebrow. "Good to know." She moved close to his ear. "I am looking for a good time."
Something tore loose in Nathan and he stood, pulling her against him. Without another thought, he claimed her lips. She went still in his arms, but then, as he expected, she grabbed hold of him and thrust her tongue in. The taste of beer met his senses and he laced a hand around her neck. She moaned as she lifted up on her toes to make the kiss deeper.

[BlogTour] Arranged Love by Lacey Wolfe

Arranged Love by Lacey Wolfe

They think they're fooling their parents, but really, the joke's on them.

Kayla Ames's parents could win an award in meddling. Every time she turns around, they're setting her up with someone new. Try as she might, she can't convince them to butt out of her love life.

Ryan Newell isn't looking for love. After having his heart torn to shreds by his ex, he's determined to never again fall in love and leave himself that vulnerable to being hurt. His parents, however, believe he just needs some help finding the right woman, and their friends' daughter, Kayla, might be a perfect match.

Realizing they both have the same problem—parents who won't stop nagging them about finding a partner—Ryan and Kayla agree to an arrangement of sorts. All they have to do is pretend to date, and they don't even have to see each other, they can discuss the details of their "dates" via email. But then the email conversations lead to real dates, and Kayla finds herself struggling to keep her feelings for Ryan in check as he's made it clear love will not enter into the equation for him. Then Kayla's parents suddenly announce they're getting a divorce, and she begins to wonder if maybe Ryan has the right idea.

When it all gets to be too much for Kayla, she has a hard decision to make—agree to stay with Ryan and never experience love, or walk away for her chance to find it.

Excerpt:

Leaning forward, Kayla grabbed the remote and turned the TV off. It was early still and since she wasn't tired, sleep wasn't an option. She could go out again. Maybe call a friend to go to a club or something. Or she could go back to the bar from last night…no, no she couldn't.

If she went out though, she'd have to change. And she was really comfortable. She grabbed the remote again, and as the TV turned on, she swore she heard someone tap on her door. Was Bunny chewing on something she shouldn't be?

Kayla got off the couch, but saw the rabbit had taken a corner and was lying there, far away from the front door. She peeked through the peephole and, to her surprise, she saw Doug, or whatever his name was. Why was he there? And what was he carrying in his hands?

Taking a deep breath, she opened the door. "Hi."

"It's nice to see you again." He smiled an oh-so-sexy grin. "Your parents sent me with food. They insisted I get this to you right away."

"They did, huh?"

He held the bag out to her and she took it. "Could I come in?"

She sucked in her bottom lip and weighed her choices. Send him away and be done with this, or see what he wants. What did she have to lose? "Sure."

Doug brushed past her into her house. She stood back a moment, watching him as he glanced around and then finally took a seat on her couch. Kayla joined the mystery man in the living room, tossing the bag of food on the coffee table as she sat on the love seat opposite of the couch he was on. Her stomach rumbled as she inhaled the aroma from the bag now sitting on the coffee table.

"So, what brings you by, besides the food?" she asked, and quickly added, "Please tell me your real name as well. It's only fair since you know mine."

"Kayla, and it's a lovely name. Mine is actually Ryan. Ryan Newell." He took a moment to rub his temple and proceeded. "Obviously, our parents are interested in us hooking up."

Hooking up…they'd covered that already. "I'm sorry. My parents are a bit over the top."

"I'd have to agree. Yours are a little worse than mine. Usually my parents leave me alone, but with your folks, it was like they were double-teaming me. They feel very strongly about you and I getting to know one another."

"Figures. I'd say we accomplished that in a way they probably weren't wanting."

He grinned again. Her heart fluttered. She needed to pack this man up and get him out of there.

"Why don't we give them what they want?"

What did he say? He couldn't really want to go along with them. "Excuse me."

"Let's date, for them. It'll get them to leave us alone."

She laughed. He wasn't serious, was he? "Brilliant plan, but I'll pass for now."

"Just hear me out. I'm not looking to fall in love. But if we pretend to be dating, our parents won't try to set us up anymore. We don't even have to see one another. We can discuss our dates and be on the same page with our stories."

"Wait." She held her hand up, staring at the dark-haired man that made her stomach do summersaults. "You're saying we aren't going to actually date. We never have to see one another. But our parents will think we are."

He nodded.

"I'm in." Kayla shrugged. "What could go wrong?"

Bed, Breakfast and You by Lacey Wolfe

Bed, Breakfast, and You by Lacey Wolfe
The Brookfield Series Prequel

Claire holds the keys to her future, in more than one way.

As if the recent death of Claire Stevens’ parents isn’t enough, someone wants to steal Honeycreek Bed and Breakfast right out from under her. But Claire isn’t about to roll over and let them. She’s prepared to fight.

Jace Brown is Brookfield’s main attorney, and after delivering the bad news to Claire about her property, he knows all about being on her bad side.

As Claire gets to the bottom of this scandal, she’s surprised to have Jace by her side, fighting along with her. The attraction is instant, but can it last after the dust settles?

Excerpt:
Claire walked around the inside of Honeycreek Bed and Breakfast and made notes on things she wanted to do before the grand reopening. She’d planned on opening it almost right away, but with this tax crap, she knew she needed to wait. Which meant she had no money coming into her pocket.

She remembered Jace needed a receptionist. Maybe she could temporarily work for him—the enemy. Then she’d be on the inside and she’d have access to files. She was brilliant. Why hadn’t she thought of this before?
But would Jace hire her?

The chances were pretty slim, but it never hurt to ask.

She headed back to her cabin to find the card he’d given her with his info on it. She’d much rather be shot down for the job over the phone than in person. The papers were now in her bedroom on her nightstand. She sifted through them until she found the small rectangular business card.

She pulled her cell phone from her back pocket and dialed the number.
“Jace Brown speaking,” he answered.

“Jace, it’s Claire.”

“What can I do for you?”

She smiled, now wishing she could see his face. “I’m calling about the assistant job. Do you still need someone?”

“Yeah, but—”

“With this mess going on, I could temporarily fill that position. I have no money coming in since I can’t reopen Honeycreek at the moment. And it would be a win-win for us both,” she explained.

“Yeah, but—”

“I just can’t see how it would be bad. You have someone to answer your phones and I’ll be able to make some money. And if I’m being honest, it might help me find the bad guy. Unless you’re the bad guy.”

“Can I speak now?” he asked.

She giggled. “Sure.”

“I’d love to hire you, but that would look odd, wouldn’t it?”

“What’s so odd about it? I need a job and you’re desperate to hire.”

“I’m not—”

“Yes, you are. So how about it? I’ll be there in the morning at eight sharp,” Claire said.
He sighed. “I’m not going to get a word in, am I?”

“The sooner you give me what I want, the sooner I’ll be out of your hair. And I have a feeling you’d like my case to get solved quickly. So, if you let me help, we can solve this together.”

“What about the sheriff? Isn’t he working on it?”

“He is. But I’ve never been one to sit around and wait. I like to take control.” She grinned. “If you know what I mean,” she added the last part for the laugh. She was sure Jace’s eyes were wide at the moment.

“I’m only agreeing to this because I do need the help. I have no idea how this is going to work. But I guess I’ll see you at eight tomorrow.”

“Great. See you then.” She ended the call.

That had worked out better than she’d expected. Then again, she hadn’t even given the poor man a chance to speak. She plopped down on her bed. Tomorrow she was going to begin getting to the bottom of this.
