Blurb:
Amanda Larson is dedicated to her job and doesn't want to make time for anything else. Until she runs into Jake Edwards. He used to be the cute boy next door; now he's a sexy, big shot lawyer.

Jake Edwards isn't interested in commitment. He's successful, sexy, and single--and that's how he likes it. When he reconnects with Amanda, Jake realizes he might have to rethink his philosophy on the carefree, bachelor lifestyle.

But, is it too late for them? Or can he convince her that he's ready to give her his heart?

SNIPPET:
Jake leaned in closer, running his hand down her arm. “Know what I’m thinking?”

Amanda fiddled with her coaster and smiled at him. “I’m not sure I want to know.”

“I’m thinking we should spend a lot more time together.” He reached over and held her chin. “It’s been way too long.”

Amanda licked her lips, and damn it, it actually turned him on. Sweet little Mandy Larson wasn’t so sweet anymore. She was driving him crazy.

She moved closer bridging distance. “Why wait? There’s no time like the present.”

“Exactly.” He drank the last of his beer as the waiter returned with her martini sans olive.

Jake leaned on the table with his elbows, folded his hands together and studied her.

“Look at you, drinking a martini, living the life in New York City.” He examined her from head to toe. “A sexy skirt. Tall boots.” He ran a finger down her cheek. “A beautiful face.”

Amanda hiccupped and put down her glass. “Now, wait a minute. I know it’s been a while, but some things never change, including you.” She wagged her finger at him. “No smooth talking with me. Don’t forget I used to know you better than anybody.”

Because his fingers actually ached with the need to touch her again, he reached over and held her hand. “Yeah, but things have changed, Mandy. We’re two different people now, and I can’t wait to get to know who you are now.”

Excerpt:
Jake sighed. “I’ll get your door.” He got out and ran to her side of the car. As he opened the door for her, he held out his hand.

Amanda ignored him as she got out. I can’t look at him. If I look at him, I’ll melt into his stare. Get out, say goodnight and go home. As the car door closed, she turned and he leaned against the shiny, black fender with his hands in his pockets.

Jake lowered his gaze in confusion. “I hope you had a good time tonight, even though you’re acting like you didn’t.”

Amanda crossed her arms in front of her chest and sighed.

He took a step closer and shook his head, looking hotter than she’d ever seen him. His hands still rested in his pockets and his serious deep-blue eyes stared at her. “You don’t have to be scared of me.”

“I actually don’t trust myself, Jake.” She switched her weight to her other leg and rolled her eyes.

“Why? You think you’re going to jump me?” He chuckled as he took his last step to her. “I wouldn’t mind.” His gaze traveled over her face, as if he were memorizing every freckle.

He wanted more. Hell, she did too. But then what?

“So, you think that after I jump you, all this will go away?” She pointed back and forth.
“That this attraction will be out of our system and we can continue to be friends? Is that how it works for you?”

He clasped her body tightly to his, his hands wrapped around the sides of her waist, his breath on her face. “What I know is we’ve passed the line of friendship already, so we should just stop holding back.”

Then he kissed her. Completely. Thoroughly. Long and slow and deep. His lips were perfect and she found herself moving to get a closer touch – if that was possible. His hands roamed her back and warmth shot up her neck and back down to her toes. The man knew what he was doing. Either he was a pure player or his desire ranked up there with her own.

Since her knees wobbled, she balanced her hands on his chest, and before she was ready for it to end, he stepped back and smiled, “See what I mean?”

Heartbreaker Blog Hop - Audible Book, $GC, Swag

HEARTBREAKERS. Who have been your favorites? In all the romances we read, there must be a happily ever after, but somewhere in between the beginning and the end, a heart break takes place.

And of course, I have to talk about Jake from Time Changes Everything, since he was a heart breaker in Amanda's early years. You will see this in my prequel to Time Changes Everything which is called Boy Next Door.  Find the blurb and excerpt below:

Dumped on Homecoming Dance night, Amanda Larson assumes that her life is over. That is until Jake Edwards, her next-door neighbor and long time crush, has come to the rescue. Although he is only visiting from college, Amanda can't help but hope that their night will lead into something bigger. Jake, on the other hand, knows that despite his attraction to little Mandy, he can't commit, not while he’s away at college. Still, Amanda will never forget the kiss she shares with the boy next door.

Hope you enjoy this small excerpt to my sweet romance.

Her look says it all...

From Boy Next Door, a WIP (unedited version)

When Amanda stopped laughing, Jake hesitated a moment. Her eyes searched his face for something and he knew exactly what. To hell with it. He was off at college anyway. One kiss wouldn't hurt. He brought his hand down to her cheek. “And taking you tonight was my pleasure, Mandy. I should be thanking you.”
Amanda looked up at Jake with her warm green eyes. He couldn't hold back. Not when her eyes asked for what his mind told him to do. “Damn, you really are beautiful.”
Amanda gasped and the sky suddenly surrounded his senses. The clouds stopped moving and the wind no longer blew its breeze. Without thinking, Jake bent slowly and placed his lips to Amanda’s.

Six Sentence Sunday 4/1/12

Happy April Fool's Day!

Today is #sixsunday where published and non-published writers share six sentences from their work.  I will share 6 sentences from my finished Work-In-Progress Time Changes Everything.

Every Sunday I think it gets harder and harder to choose just 6 lines. I cheated a bit and have 8 sentences. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone. Hopefully you enjoy today's pick.

To hell with it, she thought, with kisses like that, what could one night as Jake’s real date be like? It was time to find out.
She cleared her throat, leaned into his muscular body, and wiped her lipstick off his lips. “Not bad, smooth talker. But,  you may be in for a surprise tonight, too, Jake Edwards.” She walked ahead of him, swaying her hips more than usual. After a few steps, she stopped, peaked across her shoulder and said, “If you play your cards right.” She heard a growl behind her as she moved towards the boat, feeling Jake’s eyes on her.

The Lucky Meme

The Lucky 7 Meme

I was tagged by Chantel Rhondeau this week to participate in the Lucky 7 meme. The rules are:

  • Go to page 77 in current WIP
  • Go to line 7
  • Copy down the next 7 sentences and post them as they're written
  • Tag 7 other authors
  • Let them know
Background: Jake and Amanda go on their first "real" date together.

Everyone and everything around them disappeared as Amanda felt Jake’s breath in her ear, “Sorry about Ryan and Charisse. This really hasn’t gone as I planned.”
“Now I have you.” Amanda looked up into his eyes.
He held the small of her back with one hand and twirled her to face the opposite direction. They both chuckled and then danced to the music quietly.
“Remember when we danced at my homecoming seven years ago?" She smiled up at him. "All the girls were envious that I was with you.”
“Oh yeah. I was a freshman in college and you got stood up.” Jake winked.
Amanda winced. “Thanks for reminding me.”

I hope you enjoyed Jake and Amanda in Time Changes Everything. As you can see, they are rediscovering each other. More exceprts to come on 6 Sentence Sunday!

Check out these other romance writer's I know. I've personally read their work and don't think you want to miss reading their 7 lines! The first 5 are previous or current critique partners. The other two blogs are from favorite authors. Enjoy!
