Her toes curled. She was ready to be his, all night long and again in the morning.
“First things first. You can’t tell me I have five minutes because I get to be in charge for the first two weeks.”
“Shit,” Preston mumbled under his breath.
“Rule number…whatever number we’re on now, no cursing. You know I hate that.”
“Okay, I promise not to curse when we’re together.” He waved his hand trying to speed her up.
“Great, next rule is…” Elizabeth ran her hands through her hair and glanced around the room looking for inspiration. “The next rule is…” She stared at the salad and dressing on the table. They probably wouldn’t be eating that tonight. “I need to put this in the refrigerator.”
“Elizabeth Abigail Kemp.” Preston leaned his head back against the chair and closed his eyes. She could hear the frustration in his voice. Her gaze travelled down the length of his body and landed on the erection straining against his pants.
“Oh my,” she whispered before turning and grabbing the salad bowl and taking it to the refrigerator. She was unable to see Preston with the refrigerator open. Instead of closing it after she was done, she leaned in further, relishing the feel of the cold air on her heated skin.
“Elizabeth, if I’m not inside you within the next few seconds I’m going to explode.”
Her knees buckled. She gripped the refrigerator tighter for balance. She heard a chair scrape against the kitchen floor. A second later she felt his erection against her ass. She stood up straight and nearly came undone, her movement pushing her closer against his hardness.

"Wait."

Eve froze mid-turn, halted by his husky command and the tingle radiating from his hand lightly grasping her wrist. She met his gaze and realized how wrong she'd been. He was a million miles away from being uncomplicated. The startling blue of his eyes revealed depths Eve could only imagine drowning in.

"Did you say…nice?" He leaned closer. "I would say that was a lot better than nice. I'm sure if we tried again we could manage spectacular. Don't you agree?" he drawled.

Maybe nice had been the wrong word to choose Eve relented as she noted his husky tone. It was infinitely better than nice.Try amazing! Her breath hitched as she thought of his kiss again. Knowing he enjoyed it too sent a surge of pleasure through her that settled deep within her belly. Obviously she could do some things right.

If she intended to fulfill her wishes she was going to have to find some confidence from somewhere—and fast! At the moment her confidence seemed to be firmly in the area of her knickers.

Running and hiding now seemed out of the question. Maybe confidence practice would be the lesser of two evils? She paused before facing Mr. Hotness for confidence lesson one.

"Hmm…" She pretended to consider. "Maybe you're right. However, as this was a dare I'm afraid it was a one time opportunity," she added with mock apology. "So I guess we'll never know."

"You kissed me for a dare?" His brow arched.

Eve nodded. "Uh-huh. My dare was to kiss a stranger."

"A dare, huh? I feel so…so violated." He clutched his free hand to his chest in feigned hurt, although his eyes brimmed with humor and a smile tugged at the corner of his delicious mouth.

"Don't be offended. I did actually choose you," she blurted before forgetting her cool, calm, and confident aim.

"So you really thought you could violate me then run?"

"That was my plan, yes," she said with a confidence she didn't quite feel, especially as she was distracted by the thumb lightly stroking her wrist.

"And I didn't even try to play hard to get. Guess you got lucky."

"Or maybe you did," she countered without thought, mortified as a blush warmed her cheeks at his responding grin.

"Tell me, do you like to be dared?"

Her eyes widened at the loaded question. "I…I find a challenge hard to resist."

"Damn good thing I'm a challenge."

            She shrugged. "We're best friends. How else would I think of you?" Amy glanced away, and then set her gaze on him again. "Why? How do you think of me?"
            Oh shit! He hadn't expected the conversation to backfire on him like that. What was he supposed to tell her? That he thought of her as a best friend that he wanted to fuck? No, he definitely couldn't tell her that. "As a friend, I guess. I don't know. It's not like I sit around and think about how I should think of you. You're Amy."
            "And you're drunk."
            "Maybe a little." He grinned. "So, do we have a deal or what?"

What is your writing environment?
For Christmas last year, I got the ultimate gift: a room of my own. My sweet hubby cleared acres of electronics and tools and man-stuff out of his Man Cave and turned the space over to me. Now it’s comfy and cozy, with a soft carpet, peach walls, and an endless supply of chocolate. It’s also the only room in the house that’s remotely clean … except at deadline time!

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
I always *think* I have my characters planned out before I start writing, but I’m pretty much always wrong. I think it’s the nature of the beast that you get to know your characters better as you write their story, so even my major characters never turn out quite as I’d planned. But it’s those secondary characters that get me every time, oftentimes appearing right out of the blue and taking over a scene. It’s obviously the pantser in me, but I love when that happens. J

One of your favorite quotes.
Oh, gosh. I have so many! But this one is tacked to my desk: “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” ~~ Maya Angelou

What type of book have you always wanted to write?
Someday maybe I’ll feel inspired to try writing that gorgeous literary fiction novel that’s brimming at the edges of my brain, but for right now, I really am writing what I always wanted to write. My goal is to create characters and a story that make people laugh a little, maybe cry a little, and of course, swoon a lot. I feel really lucky that I get to sit down every day and try to make that happen.

What’s the last movie you watched and loved?
Okay, I think it says something quite frightening about my social life that I just had to google “2013 movies” to see what actually came out this year! It’s further pathetic that I had to scroll to the 74th most popular one to find one I’d actually gone to see. Clearly I need more movies in my life!


Flirting Questions

Which actor or book character do you have a crush on?
Ryan Gosling sounds too clichĂ© to go with these days, even though I totally discovered him before everyone else did, so I’ll have to say Matt Damon on this one. I fell in love with him in Good Will Hunting, and would still marry him if he asked. Not only does he have the adorable smile, he’s super-smart. And bonus: I’d get to hang out with Ben & Jen … and George!

What’s your favorite body part of the opposite sex?
Eyes. Definitely the eyes.

Hey, baby! What’s your sign?
My sign is Scorpio, which I actually find quite amusing, because I have no Scorpio tendencies. None. I’m almost convinced I was born prematurely, meant to be a Sagittarius.

How did you meet your significant other?
We were both teaching at the same school, and on the day after Halloween he let a class full of adolescent boys eat as much candy as they wanted to as long as they shared with him. Said boys then headed to my classroom for 90 minutes of pure, sugar-induced craziness. He says I yelled at him afterward. I say I calmly reminded him of the no-candy rule. Tomato-tomahto. J

If you could take a romantic trip, where would it be?
I’d book a long, long autumn weekend at an oceanfront B&B. We could curl up with books in front of the fireplace, walk the beach at low tide, and enjoy some down-time. Hmm. Now googling oceanfront B&Bs…
