Blurb

USA Today bestselling author Mira Lyn Kelly cranks up the heat for two lifelong friends whose most secret longings come true in every delectable way.

Vivacious and successful, Ava Meyers is living her dream life, except for one thing: Ever since childhood, she’s been in love with her best friend . . . and she’s never admitted it. Back then, Sam Farrow was a damaged young man with a tough past. Now he’s supremely confident, super-sexy, and totally untouchable—until the night when Sam pretends to be Ava’s boyfriend to save her from some unwanted attention. In a moment of weakness, Ava finds out that a long friendship is no match for blistering sexual chemistry.

After years of denying his own feelings, Sam finds that one amazing night with Ava isn’t enough to chase away all the pent-up fantasies. So he proposes they spend a few weeks driving each other wild, exhausting their every desire, and then return to their perfect platonic relationship like nothing ever happened. But Sam’s plan has one fatal flaw: the part where they give each other up. Because the more they let go of their inhibitions, the more they’re tempted to never go back.

EXCERPT
The heavy thunk of a door closing behind them had both women turning to where Wicker Park’s top contractor had parked on the other side of the fence. Sam Farrow rounded the hood of his truck, his wild mop of golden blond catching in the breeze as his long-legged stride ate through the distance between them. He was wearing the Maui Jim Pilot sunglasses Ava bought him for Christmas, a white, long-sleeved T-shirt pushed up his lean-muscled forearms and which hung half tucked over a pair of faded blues and a thick brown leather belt. He was flashing an easygoing grin that was practically his natural state of rest, but even from the distance, she could see something wasn’t quite right.
Maggie waved. “Hi, Sam.”
“Everything okay?” Ava asked, moving her stuff to make room for him.
“Hey, Maggs,” he offered, dropping into the open seat, before turning to Ava.
“I don’t know, Ave. There I am, walking the aisles of Home Depot, deep in my happy place, when my phone rings and I answer it to Tony croaking out, ‘Looks like Ava’s got a taste for some Tony potpie after all.’”
She cringed and swung around to Maggie. “You see why I need Tyler to take me?”
Maggie let out an indelicate snort as she collected her stuff. “Tyler’s back.”
Down the block, Tyler Wells—the borrowed date who apparently would not be hers—rounded the corner at a steady jog and Maggie pushed up from her seat, her eyes still on her fiancé, who definitely made running look good.
“Later, guys,” she said, heading out.
“Later.”
Sam stretched his arm across the back of the bench and then pulled off his shades, revealing eyes the same color as the worn denim that had so much been a part of his wardrobe since the first day Ava met him.
“Want to tell me why Tony thinks he’s got a date with you?”
Man, he had the best eyes.
“Because you’re an asshat,” Ava stated flatly. “You totally abandoned me. Left me completely high and dry, and after all the times I’ve stood in for you when one of your whirlwind one-nighters suddenly decides she wants more, like a month or forever? You should be ashamed of yourself.”
Sam was nodding, the grin on his face going wider with her every word. “Right. Obviously, I’m the root cause. But maybe you could be a little more specific about the how, what, when, and where of it?”
Ava snuggled in closer to him on the bench, because there was nothing better than the clean smell of his Irish Spring soap, and he was warm and she was a snuggler by nature, so it’s just what she did. And then she proceeded to remind him about the law mixer she’d asked him to plus-one for, how he’d turned her down, and how Steven—who wasn’t actually a stalker, but had serious persistence issues—was going to be there and she wanted to lose him as passively as possible.
Sam pulled his phone from his pocket, dialed, and then held it up to his ear. “Hey, gorgeous. Can’t make it Friday. Rain check? . . . You’re perfect, marry me . . . Yeah, well I’m still picking out china patterns. Later.”
He stared down at her. “All you had to do was say it was serious.”
Ava gaped. “I did. In fact I think my exact words were, ‘Sam, this is serious. I’m desperate.’”
He shook his head, all don’t-give-me-that. “Uh-uh. You know exactly what I’m talking about. Every time you run out of Spicy Thai Kettle Chips, you swear up and down it’s an emergency, and we both know it isn’t that big a deal. You should have said it was Tony serious.”
Ava huffed but after an eye roll was willing enough to agree, because it looked like her best buddy was going to bail her out after all. “Fine. Sorry. I should have told you it was Tony serious.”
Not one to hold a grudge, Sam grinned. “I forgive you. So. What exactly do you need me to do?”

Simple. “Pretend you love me.”

[Book Tour] A Cowboy's Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnnis #Excerpt #Giveaway

A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise
By: Maggie McGinnis
Releasing November 18th, 2014

Blurb

In a captivating novel spiced with holiday magic—perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Susan Mallery, and Molly O’Keefe—a rugged Montana man mends a Northeast girl’s jaded heart.

Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini tends the city’s pampered pets but dreams of the rural life of a country vet. She’s single and determined to stay that way, convinced that love isn’t permanent enough to trust. Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.

Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.

“Oh, holy hotness.” Hayley flopped across her bed, looking up at the planked ceiling. The cabin was just as adorable as last year, with a big, stone fireplace and two couches in the living room; a tiny, efficient kitchenette; and three bedrooms furnished with queen beds, down comforters, and colorful patchwork quilts. The bathroom alone was as big as half of her Boston apartment, and she was going to have to make a trip into town for a bottle of bubble bath so she could properly enjoy the claw-foot tub.

The afternoon sun danced through the lacy curtains and wide windows, sending fingers of light bouncing against the walls and ceiling. Her blood pressure was continuing its slow slide toward total relaxation, and she hadn’t even been at Whisper Creek for two hours yet.

She sat up, glaring playfully at Kyla, who was fussing around with the tiny unicorn and doll Hayley had set on the bureau. “I can’t believe you said he was one of the sweetest guys you know!”
Kyla laughed. “He is!”

“You even said he had a great personality!”

“He does! What’s with the accusatory tone?”

“Those are things you say about someone who doesn’t actually have any redeeming physical qualities. And Daniel”—Hayley flopped back down—“has definitely got redeeming physical qualities.” She sat back up. “Why have you never mentioned him before now?”

Kyla shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe I didn’t think he was your type when I first met him? And, you know, there is that whole you’re-in-Boston-he’s-in-Montana thing.”

“I suppose.” Hayley lay back down, sighing. “So tell me about him. He’s ridiculously gorgeous, obviously gainfully employed, and, apparently, sweet. Please tell me he’s not an ex-convict, a serial killer, or in witness protection.”

Kyla laughed. “None of the above.”

“And he’s not married? I find it hard to believe, given, you know—” She sighed dreamily. “Have you ever noticed his eyes?”

“Everyone notices his eyes. They’re crazy gorgeous.” Kyla paused just long enough to have Hayley tipping her head up from the bed. “There’s one thing you should know, though.”

“Dammit. I knew he was too good to be true.”

“No, he’s not. But he is widowed.”

“At his age? Oh, my God.” Hayley’s mind raced through the possibilities. “What happened?”

“Cancer. Two years ago.”

“That’s terrible.” She held her stomach, feeling a strangely intense pain when she thought about him losing his wife at such a young age. She stared at the ceiling for a long moment, trying to imagine what it would be like to lose a spouse.

But who was she kidding? She couldn’t imagine ever having one, let alone losing one.

“So,” Kyla said, adjusting the vase on the bureau, “I just thought you should know that. But he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, and you’re one of my two favorite friends, and I’d love it if you guys hit it off. Even if it’s just as friends, okay? Who knows what could happen?”

“He’s definitely—nice.”

Translation: fling-a-liciously hot.

“Told you. And you never know. He could turn out to be the man of your dreams, right?”

Hayley turned her head so Kyla could fully appreciate her crossed eyes. “Oh, boy. Is this where you wave your crazy-fingers and say ‘Whisper Creek magic’?”

[Book Tour] Truth or Dare by Mira Lyn Kelly #Giveaway #Excerpt

Truth or Dare
Dare to Love # 1
By: Mira Lyn Kelly
Releasing September 16th, 2014
Loveswept

Blurb

In a deliciously sexy twist on the classic game, USA Today bestselling author Mira Lyn Kelly proves that when playing truth or dare—always choose dare.

After her one attempt at commitment ends with the discovery that her fiancé already has a wife and kid, Maggie Lawson vows that the only people she’ll love ’til death do they part will be her friends. Unfortunately that means Maggie letting her bestie rope her into a year-long dating dare: score a new date each month or pay a penalty. Seems doable—until Maggie’s date stands her up, leaving only one option: the sexy stud who just moved in upstairs. The problem? He and Maggie can’t stop fighting—and that’s just the beginning.

His name is Tyler Daniels and the last thing he needs is his neighbor distracting him with her girl-next-door smile and sharp tongue. Tyler’s in Chicago for one reason: to woo back his selfish ex in order to reclaim the child he once thought was his—and that means keeping Maggie out of his bed. A tall order, since Maggie has become a bigger temptation than he ever expected to face. But before they can even consider leaving the past behind, Maggie and Tyler must accept a brand-new dare: real, forever love.

EXCERPT

“He actually called you ‘Apartment Two’?” Ava Meyers, Maggie’s best friend and fellow abstainer in all things “relationship,” shook her head, her mahogany shag catching in the light breeze and blowing around her face. They were settled in on their favorite bench with the usual Sunday assortment of accumulated mail, magazines, electronic devices, and what remained of the cookies. “Like you didn’t merit an identity beyond the female occupying space beneath him.”
Maggie scrolled through the headlines, too deep into her snit to commit to any one bit of news. “Ford says he’s in marketing. Freelance. And he’s from New York I think, renting month to month, so maybe we’ll luck out and he’ll be gone by September.”
“Month to month? Weird. Why?”
“Your brother. You ask.”
Ava let out an indelicate snort. Ford was . . . distracted. That they’d even gotten this much information was a minor miracle.
Picking through the cookies, she added, “I love it that he thought you were putting a move on him, though.”
“I know. Because that’s so me,” Maggie snickered. “Scoping out the meat market twenty-four–seven.”
Talk about a headache she didn’t need. Not when at twenty-seven, her life was pretty well perfect just the way it was. Stable. Secure. On track. Built on a rock-solid foundation of priorities any guidance counselor would swoon over. Maggie had completed her education, had savings and a financial plan, a solid job managing The Shrone Gallery, and her boss’s cosmic blessing to buy into the business as a partner, hopefully within the next year, and eventually buy her out. Add to that, the friendships that “completed” her in ways no romance could . . . and she was good.
Better than.
The whole ever-after business? She didn’t have time for it.
Correction. She had plenty of time. It was the inclination that was lacking.
Maggie tipped her face to the sky, basking in the warmth of June’s sunshine and her contentment with the lot that life had given her. Sure, there’d been dues to pay. There always were. But it was because of those rough patches that she was able to fully appreciate this tranquil little corner of Platonia she’d carved out for herself. Where her circle of friends reigned supreme and the forecast always called for good times. Constancy, support, and reliability.
Chance of romantic strife or bitter betrayal raining on their parade? Zero.
Yeah, Maggie was satisfied with her life exactly the way it was. Period.
“So, hey,” Ava drawled from beside her. “Obviously, Apartment Three was a total weenis, and I’m not talking about him. But do you ever look around and . . . you know . . . wonder?”
“Hmm . . . About what?” How to reduce her carbon footprint? Whether the new Italian place was as good as everyone was saying? If her buyer for the Stovitz oil was serious about a second piece? If she’d be able to get Hedda to sit still—and not in a meditative state—long enough to discuss a timetable for their plans? If her parents would finally relax and believe she was capable of taking care of herself?
Ava squinted, her mouth turning down in distaste. “That.”
Maggie followed her friend’s gaze to the red-checked cliché-in-action nestled into a shady corner of Wicker Park. And blinked. Twice.
“The couple?” she wheezed. “You aren’t serious?”
Then after a thought, let out a laugh, because, no way.
Ava didn’t date any more than Maggie did—which meant only under the most dire of circumstances. And unless Maggie had missed significantly more than she’d realized this morning, these were not them.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure I am. I think maybe it’s time I stopped shutting down every guy who asks me out and start, I don’t know, opening myself up to the possibilities.”
Eyes cranking around a beat before her head, Maggie gasped. “Wha—?”

This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be. Except that sour look of disgusted resignation on Ava’s face as she frowned across at the picnic set for two told Maggie . . . it was happening.

Loveswept

Blurb
In Katie Rose’s irresistible battle of wits, a case of mistaken identity lands a female fan in bed with a sexy superstar—and in major-league trouble.

House-sitting for a rich and famous friend has its perks, and Darcy Hamel isn’t shy about enjoying them. Especially when it means scoring a ticket to an exclusive fashion show hosted by the New Jersey Sonics. An avid baseball fan, Darcy has always dreamed of meeting the team—especially the starting pitcher whose body is as hot as his fastball. But there’s a catch. The gala is by invitation only. To get behind the velvet rope, mild-mannered Darcy will have to pose as party girl Lydia Logan.

Schmoozing is one of the downsides of fame, but Chase Westbrook knows how to liven up even the dullest event. And nothing spices a night up more than a beautiful socialite with a naughty reputation. What Chase doesn’t expect is a hint of sweetness beneath her sultry façade. Flirtation turns to seduction and leaves him aching for more. Chase just doesn’t know who the real Lydia is: the spoiled tease crying foul over some missing diamonds or the alluring woman making a play for his heart.

(from Chapter Two)

Darcy settled into the backseat of Lydia’s car, trying to quell the excitement inside of her. Every time she caught a glimpse of herself in the rearview mirror, she did a double take. Instead of the familiar face she saw each day looking back at her, she saw a blond bombshell.
The Spanx she wore was tight against her belly, but the undergarment worked miracles when she slipped on Lydia’s dress. Her figure wasn’t as drop-dead perfect as the socialite’s, but thankfully the design of the skirt was forgiving, and the ruching hid her tummy and thighs.
The streetlight flashed and the rhinestone hoops she wore burst into a thousand suns.
Darcy had been reluctant to borrow anything else from Lydia besides the outfit, but nothing in her humble jewel box looked even passable with the spectacular dress. It was then she noticed the hoops tossed carelessly inside Lydia’s box of costume jewelry. Darcy had fingered them reverently, seeing the way they sparkled. They were fakes, but good fakes, and when she held them up to her face and looked into the mirror, they were perfect, exactly what the dress cried out for.
Yet now, when she saw the way they caught the light, she gulped uneasily. Surely they couldn’t be real—-yet even in Darcy’s limited experience, only the finest stones, hand-matched and expertly cut, could produce such an effect. Lydia had tossed them in the same drawer with her J.Crew baubles . . .
“Here we are, Miss Darcy.”
“Are you sure I can’t pay you for the ride?” she asked James, Lydia’s driver, as they pulled up to the doors of the Union League Club.
“No. You’ve certainly saved Miss Lydia’s butt on more than one occasion. You’ve been more than an employee to her; you’ve been her friend. She owes you. Tonight it’s your turn.” He stopped her when she reached for the door. “Allow me.”
He got out of the limo and came to her side of the car, and then opened the door for her. Darcy grinned as he held out his hand and helped her to the sidewalk. The fuchsia stilettos she’d found in the back of Lydia’s closet were a good six inches tall, and when she tried to stand, she tottered back and forth, struggling for balance like a two-year-old in her mother’s heels.
“Are you all right?” James was reluctant to release her arm as she continued to wobble.
“Here, let me escort you to the door.”
“That would be wonderful.” Darcy had to laugh at herself as she took one hesitant step after another. “I feel like Bambi! I hope I don’t fall on my face.”
James chuckled as he held her elbow firmly and led her up the right side steps of the twin staircase that flanked the brick building. “You’ll do just fine,” he assured her.
Darcy swallowed her doubts.

If I wasn't an author I'd be a . . .

I literally can't imagine not being a writer. Some of my first memories are of making up little stories, drawing about them, writing down what I could. I've kept a journal or diary for thirty-one years (I'm 39), and writing is the activity I prefer to do over almost all others. Even if I had never been published, I'd be a writer. Publishing was never the end goal for me -- I've just always been writing.

I do have a job that I love, however. I'm a pediatric nurse practitioner. Right now, I'm the healthcare provider at a college's student health clinic. In this capacity, I get to talk about things people are worried about, or ashamed about, or have questions about. I get to educate and support women's health. I still work with other kids and newborns, too, which means I get to talk with and work with families. I'm really passionate about knowledge and self-knowledge, and access, and in this job I get to really live all of those ideas in a dynamic way with other people. It's a job I learn so much in, as well. I have a lot of access to education, and I learn a tremendous amount from my patients -- who are amazing.

So I have this incredible privilege to do what I love in such a way that I am motivated to be better at all the things I do.
