Blurb
In Katie Rose’s irresistible battle of wits, a case of mistaken identity lands a female fan in bed with a sexy superstar—and in major-league trouble.

House-sitting for a rich and famous friend has its perks, and Darcy Hamel isn’t shy about enjoying them. Especially when it means scoring a ticket to an exclusive fashion show hosted by the New Jersey Sonics. An avid baseball fan, Darcy has always dreamed of meeting the team—especially the starting pitcher whose body is as hot as his fastball. But there’s a catch. The gala is by invitation only. To get behind the velvet rope, mild-mannered Darcy will have to pose as party girl Lydia Logan.

Schmoozing is one of the downsides of fame, but Chase Westbrook knows how to liven up even the dullest event. And nothing spices a night up more than a beautiful socialite with a naughty reputation. What Chase doesn’t expect is a hint of sweetness beneath her sultry façade. Flirtation turns to seduction and leaves him aching for more. Chase just doesn’t know who the real Lydia is: the spoiled tease crying foul over some missing diamonds or the alluring woman making a play for his heart.

(from Chapter Two)

Darcy settled into the backseat of Lydia’s car, trying to quell the excitement inside of her. Every time she caught a glimpse of herself in the rearview mirror, she did a double take. Instead of the familiar face she saw each day looking back at her, she saw a blond bombshell.
The Spanx she wore was tight against her belly, but the undergarment worked miracles when she slipped on Lydia’s dress. Her figure wasn’t as drop-dead perfect as the socialite’s, but thankfully the design of the skirt was forgiving, and the ruching hid her tummy and thighs.
The streetlight flashed and the rhinestone hoops she wore burst into a thousand suns.
Darcy had been reluctant to borrow anything else from Lydia besides the outfit, but nothing in her humble jewel box looked even passable with the spectacular dress. It was then she noticed the hoops tossed carelessly inside Lydia’s box of costume jewelry. Darcy had fingered them reverently, seeing the way they sparkled. They were fakes, but good fakes, and when she held them up to her face and looked into the mirror, they were perfect, exactly what the dress cried out for.
Yet now, when she saw the way they caught the light, she gulped uneasily. Surely they couldn’t be real—-yet even in Darcy’s limited experience, only the finest stones, hand-matched and expertly cut, could produce such an effect. Lydia had tossed them in the same drawer with her J.Crew baubles . . .
“Here we are, Miss Darcy.”
“Are you sure I can’t pay you for the ride?” she asked James, Lydia’s driver, as they pulled up to the doors of the Union League Club.
“No. You’ve certainly saved Miss Lydia’s butt on more than one occasion. You’ve been more than an employee to her; you’ve been her friend. She owes you. Tonight it’s your turn.” He stopped her when she reached for the door. “Allow me.”
He got out of the limo and came to her side of the car, and then opened the door for her. Darcy grinned as he held out his hand and helped her to the sidewalk. The fuchsia stilettos she’d found in the back of Lydia’s closet were a good six inches tall, and when she tried to stand, she tottered back and forth, struggling for balance like a two-year-old in her mother’s heels.
“Are you all right?” James was reluctant to release her arm as she continued to wobble.
“Here, let me escort you to the door.”
“That would be wonderful.” Darcy had to laugh at herself as she took one hesitant step after another. “I feel like Bambi! I hope I don’t fall on my face.”
James chuckled as he held her elbow firmly and led her up the right side steps of the twin staircase that flanked the brick building. “You’ll do just fine,” he assured her.
Darcy swallowed her doubts.
