[Book Tour] Tempt the Night by Dixie Lee Brown #Excerpt #Giveaway

Tempt the Night
Trust No One # 5
By: Dixie Lee Brown
Releasing February 24th, 2015
Avon Impulse

Blurb
Dixie Lee Brown concludes her thrilling Trust No One series with the fast-paced tale of a damaged hero and the sexy fugitive he can't help falling for.

Samantha "Mac" McCallister barely believes her own tale of dirty cops and murder that landed her in the hands of the sexy Jim Brady. One minute she was enjoying a ride-along in her best friend's cruiser, the next he's dead and she's wanted for his murder. Mac never expected to be hiding out from the law, but with Jim by her side, maybe she can survive long enough to clear her name. The question is, can she survive the way Jim makes her feel?

Former Navy Seal Jim Brady works best under pressure. At least he used to. Now, fighting flashbacks from his time in Iraq, he has given up everything he knows in order to protect the innocent … from himself. So working with a woman on the run from the law? Not in his plans for this lifetime. Still, something about the blue-eyed beauty tells him she's not the source of the danger—she's running from it. Deep down he knows he'll protect her no matter what. But his heart? That's another story.

Excerpt
“Mac? Are you still at Wagner’s?” Lucas’s voice rose for a second before his customary calm returned. “I’ll call it in. Stay on the line, Mac.”
“No…I can’t. I have to help him. Tell them to hurry, Lucas.” She dropped the phone and smiled at Paddy even though her heart was aching. “They’ll be here in no time. Now, let’s get this bleeding stopped.” She glanced around and spotted a stack of towels near a sink. Jumping up, she grabbed several of them. As she knelt beside him again and began applying pressure to his wounds, he put his hand to his throat and formed words with his lips, but, except for his frustrated grunts, no sounds came out.
Mac placed her fingers on his lips and held his gaze until he quieted. “Tell me later, after they get you patched up.” There were a thousand questions she wanted to ask, but now wasn’t the time.
The fear that grew in his eyes almost did her in. Slowly, he slid his hand to his badge and pulled it free. He pressed it against her hand frantically, until she had to leave the towel and take it from him. Next he reached for his gun and became highly agitated when it wasn’t in his holster.
“It’s okay, Paddy. It’s by the door. I saw it on my way in.”
If she had let him, he would have crawled over to retrieve it. After ordering him to lie still, she went and got the weapon. He was pulling a business card from his front shirt pocket when she knelt beside him again, and he shoved it at her along with the gun she tried to put in his holster. She had no idea why he wanted her to have those items, only that he was calmer when she gave in and held them in her hands.
Too calm. Paddy’s eyes fell shut and his breathing reduced to a shallow inhale with no apparent exhale. Where was that damn ambulance? Didn’t they know her best friend’s life was leaking out through her fingers?
“Stay with me, Paddy. You hear? You’re going to owe me big time when you’re back on your feet. I’m going to take you up on that trip to Hawaii you’re always yammering about.” She was only talking to give him something to hold onto, but hope sparked within her when a tiny trace of a smile flitted across his face.
Mac heard something downstairs and then voices. The backup Lucas had called for had finally arrived. She was about to scramble to her feet, go to the door, and holler for them when Paddy caught her wrist with more strength than he should have had. The gaze that met hers was clear and purposeful.
“Help has arrived.” She tried to pull free, but he held her tightly and slowly wagged his head from side to side. Glancing toward the door again, she tensed. “Do you think the perps are coming back?”
Paddy nodded. Then, with deliberate intent, he motioned toward the other side of the room with his eyes, once…twice…three times, and mouthed a word she couldn’t mistake.
Hide.
Her gaze turned in the direction he indicated. Like any other kids who’d grown up in Sitka and spent any time with old man Wagner in his fish packing plant, they were both intimately familiar with his office.
She faced Paddy again. “You want me to hide in the dumbwaiter?”
He nodded and swept his eyes that direction again as though trying to hurry her.
“You’re crazy if you think I’m going to leave you.” She turned away as tears filled her eyes.

Still grasping her wrist, he pulled her down and toward his face until his lips hovered by her ear. “Do… it… for… me.”

[Book Tour] Various States of Undress by Laura Simcox #Giveaway #Excerpt

Various States of Undress: Georgia
Various States of Undress # 3
By: Laura Simcox
Releasing January 6th, 2015
Avon Impulse

Blurb
Laura Simcox concludes her fun, flirty Various States of Undress series featuring three presidential daughters with the tale of love at the ballgame.

Brett Knox, star catcher of the Memphis Redbirds, a Triple-A farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals, just got bumped back down to the minors. Brett’s main goal in life is to get back into the big leagues-on his own terms, which means no distractions. Certainly not in the form of a sexy brunette who won’t take no for an answer. As far as Brett’s concerned, his life story isn’t for sale, charity, or pity.’

Georgia Fulton, 4.0 student and daughter of the president of the United States, is certain that she’s on her way to journalistic stardom and she’s doing it without cashing in on her celebrity status-which is exactly what she wants. Nothing’s going to keep her from getting the story of her young career...until she meets Brett Knox, and quickly realizes that he’s a force to be reckoned with. He may be the focus of her assignment, but he could also seriously mess with her internship success, and more alarmingly, her heart.

This was the moment, then—the part of today’s practice when Brett showed Georgia how to pitch. She had to learn, since she was throwing the ceremonial first pitch on the Fourth of July. Brett wasn’t a pitcher, but management had insisted that he welcome her to the Redbirds with open arms, to make up for being rude enough to turn down her interview request.
“Give yourself a minute to relax,” he told her, “and don’t worry about learning everything at once, okay?”
“Okay.” She pulled the ball from Brett’s mitt, and when she met his gaze, her lips parted slightly. “I might screw this all up,” she whispered.
“Don’t worry. I’ll keep an eye on your form,” he whispered back.
Her mouth opened farther. “You’ll¾oh.” She closed her eyes. “Right. You do that.” As she walked away, he saw her trace her lower lip with her tongue. Oh God, he was in trouble.
He turned around and walked to the plate, forcing himself not to watch as Georgia jogged out to the pitcher’s mound because he knew his teammates would be watching him watch her. Brett’s performance at today’s practice was probably the best entertainment they’d had in a long time, but it was all he could do to maintain his cool.
When he squatted behind home plate, that cool nearly vanished, because Georgia stood on the mound, her feet slightly apart, her arms raised as she twisted her soft-looking hair on top of her head. Brett glanced back toward the dugout, where the guys now all stood in a motionless line, leaning on the rail, staring at Georgia.
Inexplicable jealousy surged through him, tightening his throat. He swallowed it down as she reached for her press credentials and slipped them down the front of her dress. “Here we go,” she called out and promptly executed an awkward, slow windup, stumbling to the side as she threw the ball. It landed on the dirt in front of her and then rolled a few feet. “Or not,” she said.
The guys laughed and yelled encouragement. Brett, idiot that he was, didn’t do anything except pound his fist in his mitt and adjust his squat.
With a smile, Georgia retrieved the ball from where it had landed nearby and held it in both hands. She stared at Brett. He stared back. There was no windup this time, just a loud grunt from her cute lips as she threw the ball—over the back of her head.
Brett stood up and jogged out to her. He tipped back his mask. “Need some help?”
She sighed, her breasts rising and falling. He trained his eyes on her face.
“Want some pointers?”
She adjusted her cap and glanced away, her gaze trailing over his chest. “You asked the same question twice, but you do realize that want and need are two different things, right?” she muttered.
“Not in this case.” While her head was bent, he gazed at her greedily—at the sprinkling of freckles over her nose, the wisps of hair floating around her delicate cheekbones. When she glanced up, she blew hair out of her eyes. “Well, no matter whether I need it or want it, you’d better go ahead and show me.”
“Show you?”
“How to throw the ball well enough that it crosses home plate. I’m determined not to embarrass myself Friday night.”
“Not a problem,” Brett said. He cleared his throat and retrieved the ball. “Okay, watch. Plant your feet and use the momentum of your body to follow through.” He went into an easy windup and mimicked throwing the ball.
“That’s what I was doing,” she protested. “Didn’t I look just like that?”
No, she’d looked like a drunk flamingo, but Brett didn’t have the heart to correct her. “You know, it’s okay to throw it underhanded,” he said. “Lots of ceremonial pitches are done that way.”
“Screw that! Let me try again.”
Chuckling, Brett handed her the ball. “All one motion. See the ball crossing the plate before you even wind up.” He stepped back—way back—and watched her hungrily from behind as she positioned her feet. The sun shone right through her thin dress, and he allowed himself to ogle the shadowy curves of her thighs and hips.
“You watching?” she called.
“No!” Brett paused. “I mean, yeah. Go ahead.”
With a nod, Georgia raised one leg, lunged forward and threw.
“Your form looked pretty good that time,” he commented.
“Really?” She smiled at him. “Thanks.”
“Try it again. Except this time . . .” Brett adjusted the ball in her hand and turned her sideways. “Twist forward as you let the ball go.”
Her shoulders shifted under his hands, and her hip pressed against his as she planted her feet wide. “Like this?” she asked, looking over her shoulder.
“Uh . . . kind of.” Brett nodded. It was all he could do not to trail a hand over that hip.
“‘Kind of’ isn’t good enough,” she said, her voice breathy. “Show me how it’s done.”

There was a hell of a lot he’d like to show her but not with his entire team—and her Secret Service agents—watching.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

I love the holidays for many reasons.  Being with family and friends. The decorations, the food, the music. Did I mention the food?  I’m not a big cookie eater, except in December when I eat every cookie I see.  In addition to gaining ten pounds, I usually set aside some time around the holidays to read. Publishers and authors help me out with this task by releasing a lot of great books in December.

Here is where I’ll admit I have a romantic suspense novella out this December. It’s called RUNNING HOT and has a tough heroine MI6 officer, an alpha nothing-scares-him CIA agent, and a very bad guy trying to do some very bad things on a beautiful island in Fiji. You should go buy it. And while you’re buying RUNNING HOT, here are a few other books you might want to think about picking up:

MERRY CHRISTMAS, BABY by Jill Shalvis.  This is a follow-up novella in Jill’s wildly successful Lucky Harbor series. That is reason enough to get it. The other? Sawyer. He’s a great hero.

HARD TO COME BY by Laura Kaye. Special Forces, covert operations, trust issues, romance and high emotional stakes. That’s probably all you need to know, right?

RAZED by Shiloh Walker. This is the second book in a series about the Barnes brothers. I will read any series about brothers.

DYING TO SCORE by Cindy Gerard. This one came up as a recommended read while I was buying another book. It is inexpensive and short and I’m betting I can fit it in when I have an extra hour one day.

COMING OUT TO PLAY by Robbie Rogers. This is a nonfiction account of the soccer star’s journey to being the first openly gay man to play on a professional sports team in the U.S.  Sounds pretty inspiring.

And one I’m waiting on…TRUST NO ONE by Jayne Ann Krentz. This one comes out after the holiday, but I’m patient. If you have a book I should add to my list, let me know.

[Cover Reveal] Tempt the Night by Dixie Lee Brown

Announcing the amazing cover reveal for...

TEMPT THE NIGHT
by Dixie Lee Brown from Avon Impulse

Trust No One, Book 5

~Available February 24th, 2015~

Former Navy Seal Jim Brady works best under pressure. At least he used to. Now, fighting flashbacks from his time in Iraq, he’s given up everything that’s familiar to him in order to protect the innocent…from himself. His mission in Alaska is simple—find a mother and reunite her with her son. Piece of cake. Except…the woman he finds isn’t the one he’s looking for. This one is pressing a gun to his ribs, and she’s covered in someone else’s blood. Not a great first impression.

Samantha “Mac” McCallister barely believes her own tale of dirty cops and murder that lands her in the same house at the same time as Brady. One minute, she’s enjoying a ride-along in her best friend’s cruiser. The next he’s dead, and she’s wanted for his murder. Brady is involved somehow. At the very least, he may have information she needs. Mac never expected to be hiding out from the law, but if Brady can be trusted, she just might survive long enough to clear her name. Too bad trust isn’t the only thing she’s feeling for the handsome stranger.

Working with a fugitive isn’t really in Brady’s plans for this lifetime. Still, something about the blue-eyed beauty tells him she’s not the source of the trouble—she’s running from it. Deep down he knows he’ll protect her no matter what…but can he protect his heart? That’s another story.
